Slava Voynov released from one cell and immediately sent to another
Slava Voynov has had a rough summer.
After serving 90 days in jail on a domestic abuse conviction, he was released today.
But instead of his freedom, he immediately was taken to a United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement detention facility according to the Los Angeles Times. And due to the violent nature of his conviction, he is being held without bail.
It looks like Slava’s playing days in North America are over.
And it still leaves the question of his impact on the Los Angeles Kings salary cap.
According to Today’s Slapshot, it is a bit of a mess:
The Kings may have waited too long to simply terminate Voynov’s contract. It’s possible that they were waiting until he was released from jail this week, but now they’ll have to wait and hear on ICE’s ruling before anything can be done. What happens with Voynov will have a significant impact on the organization’s $9.916M in cap space.
It’s difficult to try to hold a conversation about what the Kings need to do financially without discussing the situations surrounding the contracts, but with nearly 1/7 of the team’s cap space taken up in limbo, the team can’t avoid examining options and possibilities.
